| There are
3 basic options available to individuals:
Active Membership
You should be physically fit and aged between 18 and 65 on
entry, and willing to attend your Unit for training and
seagoing or other activities regularly. No previous maritime experience is necessary. You can serve as
an active member until you are 70, you may then continue
as a Back-up member or Supporter.
Back-up List
If you are aged 70 or under, have already completed a career
in a maritime related job and have practical expertise
you could pass on to a younger generation, the 'Back-up'
List may be for you. We need instructors, particularly
those with a knowledge of seamanship, engineering (marine,
electrical or electronic) and harbour management. You will
be expected to attend your Unit regularly on training evenings.
You can continue to serve as long as you are physically fit.
Supporters List
If you feel unable to give the MVS the level of commitment
required for lists 'A' or 'B', but nevertheless support
its aims and wish to be involved with the Service then
you can join the 'Supporters' List. There are no age limits
and you will play your part by attending social functions.
You may also be asked to assist your Head of Unit in organising
fund raising events and generally helping to raise the
profile of the MVS in your community.
The annual subscriptions include personal accident insurance
cover when you take part in MVS activities. You will also
receive a copy of the MVS Newsletter and annual review.
We also offer 'Temporary' List membership for those who
are 'joining' for the duration of a course.
