Olympics 2012

Many sports are part of the Olympics and the games in 2012 will be no exception. We are in discussions with many organizations that are part of the the Olympics in 2012 with regard to marshalling and helping at events such as sailing at Weymouth and Portland. With our broad range of maritime skills, we are sure to be a great asset to the Olympic games in 2012.

 

SAOC Meeting - 9 February 2012

As the Olympics draw nearer plans are really coming together with regard to the MVS helping at the sailing events in Weymouth and Portland harbours. See the Weymouth Harbour website for further details. Right are some members of the MVS Southern Area Olympic Committee.

 

SAOC Meeting - 19 July 2011

The Southern Area Olympic Committee, chaired by Liz Glare, met at NSTC Lion in Portsmouth on Tuesday 19 July 2011. At this meeting the following were agreed:

  • A calling letter to all members asking those who wish to be involved with the Olympics will be sent out. Asking for for experience, qualifications and life skills.
  • Accommodation for volunteers will be reviewed.
  • Vessels and equipment review to be carried out with a view to ensuring all are in best condition for the games.
  • Meeting with Weymouth Harbour Master.
  • An exercise with Dorset County Council.
  • Continue talks with emergency services, MCA and other relevant authorities.
