Double Trouble for MVS Plymouth
Crew members from the Plymouth unit of the Maritime Volunteer Service rendered assistance not once, but twice, during what would turn out to be a far from routine maintenance session yesterday.
The first incident occurred when the crew were preparing to head out to MVS Curlew, when an elderly gentleman fell from the local sailing club pontoon into the River Tamar.
Whilst a passer-by was the first on the scene and pulled the casualty from the water, MVS crewmen were able to put their first aid training into practice ensuring that the casualty was largely unhurt by the incident.
The second incident happened as MVS Curlew was coming alongside the fuelling pontoon, when a Hobie Cat became dismasted north of Drake’s Island.
The crew responded immediately and provided assistance to the MOD Police as they towed the vessel ashore.
