Liverpool City fire up with Merseyside Scouts
The Rigiflex V431 operated by Liverpool City MVS has undertaken its first exercise of the year carrying out a number of tasks in support of activities at the Tawd Vale Scout Campsite in West Lancashire.
The boat was launched onto a flooded quarry used for water activities which is surrounded on 3 out of 4 sides by sheer rock walls.
Access is provided on the open side by a very narrow jetty which required some careful manoeuvring of V431’s trailer.
The V431 was used to provide some introductory power boat training to Scouts and Explorer Scouts from the nearby 1st Whiston Scout Group on Merseyside.
The Scouts quickly learnt basic boat handling skills under the supervision of MVS member Matt Donnelly, and these skills were then put to good use helping out on the campsite.
The first task was to undertake a photographic survey of the stone walls, overhanging trees and any partially submerged obstructions that could pose a risk to users of the water.
Then the MVS-Scout team undertook a clean-up of the water by removing numerous bits of floating material including small floating branches which were brought aboard V431, and some heftier logs which provided an opportunity to practice towing operations.
