The new Port of Manchester Unit has performed its first public engagement at the annual Good Friday Duck Race in the city.

The event at Spinningfields on the River Irwell is held to raise money for the Brainwave Charity.

The Unit arranged to provide a safety boat and a control point for all watercraft as well as to take overall control in the event of an emergency.

At the 11th hour the Unit was asked to provide a second boat as the organisers craft had been holed.

The day was a big success and provided a good deal of exposure in the local media as well as to the two thousand visitors at the event who braved the Manchester rain.

The Unit has already been invited back for the event next year.
