The Port of Manchester unit have travelled even further north to Cumbria where they visited the Lake Wardens base at Windermere.

The MVS team went to see what is done on the lake on a day to day basis, which ranges from dealing with medical emergencies, fires and general maintenance, as well as keeping the public and wildlife safe.

The wardens have a very active role, getting involved in public events as well as providing safety boat cover for TV and film productions.

The team got out on the water in the jet boat which has to abide by the 10 knot by-law on the lake unless they are dealing with an emergency

POM Seamanship Officer Phil Flynn said, “We all had a great day out with the wardens on the lake.
We were shown how to helm a water jet powered boat, as well as the important role the warden’s play in keeping people safe on one of England’s busiest lakes.”
