Coastguard Helicopter Exercise for MVS off Sussex
The MVS’s national training vessel, East Sussex 1 attracted large crowds on Eastbourne seafront this week when she exercised with a Coastguard helicopter close inshore.
ES1 was carrying out an afternoon trip to give four potential new members a taste of what we do.
This followed a successful recruiting drive locally and the referral of one enquiry from an event held by MVS Northumbria in the North East.
The helicopter put a paramedic aboard and later recovered him while practicing various approach patterns.
The handling and comms skills of the MVS crew were well tested in stiffening sea conditions.
Skipper David Hughes said, “This was a valuable link and good experience for our members.
Les Quilty’s skill in holding course for an extended period was particularly notable”.
