Three members of Humber Unit travelled to Eastbourne to spend three nights on the MVS’s national training vessel, East Sussex 1.
The weekend was aimed at providing sea experience and honing seamanship and navigation skills.

On Saturday, with four East Sussex Sovereign Harbour Unit members also on board, ES1 sailed west to Brighton Marina, passing the white cliffs of Beachy Head and the Seven Sisters.

The trip was timed to catch the spring tide ebb, giving the team an extra three or more knots and cutting the length of the trip from three hours to just over two.

HoU Humber, Shayne Arnold said, “It was a very useful and enjoyable exercise and I hope we can sail on ES1 again next year.”

Skipper for the trip, David Hughes, said, “Members from other Units are always very welcome to sail on ES1 and we hope to see Humber again in 2017.”
