The Tewkesbury based Severn Unit have marked the end of their Monday evening training sessions with their annual fish & chips supper cruise.

Head of Unit Nic Price said, “four boats with unit members and their partners went up river to the Fleet Inn at Twyning for the meal.

Although the Unit will no longer be afloat on Monday evenings until next spring, we hope to continue with our training on the Avon throughout the winter during the day, whenever the weather and river conditions are suitable.”

The Unit has had a particularly busy summer and have been called out a record number of times to help with boats that have been in trouble, ranging from a narrow boat which had lost its propeller outside Avon Lock to a massive undertaking of towing a boat back nearly 30 miles through seven locks from Evesham.

Unit volunteers also played a major part last month helping other Avon Navigation Volunteers in giving Strensham Lock at Eckington a much needed makeover including painting and ground work.
