Restoration Project for MVS Poole

restorationprojecformvspoole

MVS Poole is beginning an ambitious three year project to restore the launch ‘Tom Sherrin’.

Built locally for Poole Pilots, she was used in that role for over twenty years before being sent to Alderney for the same purpose until 2000.

She has been looked after by MVS Poole since her return to the south coast.

Work has begun after the unit received a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Local college staff and students are carrying out the timber restoration and an army of volunteers are doing much of the other work.

The unit are looking for volunteers on the first three Thursdays in December to start tidying, cleaning and preparing the engines and fuel tanks for lifting.

Reasonable travelling and parking costs will be paid.
