MVS to the Rescue on the Tyne
A routine training session of MVS Northumbria was interrupted when a request from the Port of Tyne was received to locate and gather information following reports of a vessel broken down and tied up on the Tyne.
Despite a thorough search, the vessel was no longer in the location given and the MVS was stood down.
The evening’s training continued with the RIB “MVS Freemason” being used to conduct manoeuvres in the unrestricted speed area up river from the Tyne Bridges.
During one exercise, the Freemason identified a small speed boat drifting onto the mud banks.
A line was attached and the boat was towed more than two miles to the nearest safe berth.
The young lads in the boat were very appreciative of the MVS and thanked the team for their help.
