Busy December for Severn Unit
The Tewkesbury based Severn Unit finished 2022 on a busy note.
Just before the onset of the wintery weather they hosted two afternoons afloat on the Avon for some young German visitors who had come over to Tewkesbury as part of the twinning arrangement.
HOU Nic Price said, “In addition to the visit in the Autumn of the party of adults from a town in Bavaria we were then asked by Cllr. Kevin Cromwell if we could host two parties of German school children including an all-girls rugby team from the same area.
Then on a cold Saturday afternoon a call for help came in from a couple on a Narrowboat which had broken down up river just before Strensham Lock which is approximately an hour away from Tewkesbury.
The 48ft narrowboat was located in the middle of the river with two anchors deployed and unable to move due to engine trouble
The unit towed the boat all the way back to Tewkesbury Marina.
Shortly before Christmas, Deputy Head of Unit Russ Davidson was course tutor at two training evenings when he took the Unit through the syllabus for the DEFRA 1 Flood and Water Awareness course.
The course is focused on people being safe working near the water and raising their awareness around a water environment.
All members passed and received a certificate.
