Christchurch & Bournemouth at Sea Cadets parade
On Tuesday 11th November three members of Christchurch & Bournemouth MVS, Greg Lustig, Dick Turpin and Dave Buckland, attended Christchurch Sea Cadets, TS Woolard, Royal Naval Parade. One other member, Peter Hann, also attended as the Chaplain of the Sea Cadet Unit. Also attending were amongst others, members of the NCI, Royal Navy Association, Bournemouth Sea Scouts and Christchurch Rotary plus members of family and supporters.
The purpose of the parade was for the Royal Naval Inspecting Officer, a Royal Naval commander, to assess the unit, that it was up to the standards expected of them and for the unit to demonstrate what the cadets have been up to and achieved.
Greg explains: “Besides the unit presenting their parade format of Colours, Prayers and Inspection there was a period for refreshments which was an occasion to talk with people we knew plus a chance to meet new people giving an opportunity to tell them about ourselves. The visiting Naval Officer was unaware of the MVS or NCI so it was good to enlighten him. After refreshments there was a period to mingle with the cadets who had set up tables to demonstrate their knowledge of ropework, seamanship, navigation etc. – all very familiar to ourselves. The visit ended with evening colours and presentation of awards. It was a worthwhile visit, one in which we could make new ties and also work on future co-operation.”
