Night time training for Portsmouth

The Portsmouth Unit conducts ashore and afloat training every Tuesday evening throughout the year as long as the weather allows.

Training afloat onboard the unit’s launch Arkwright targets various tasks each week. In early February Tuesday’s training included berthing practice in restricted areas, while operating at night within Portsmouth’s commercial harbour with traffic transiting the harbour. Under the supervision of two commercially certificated coxswains each of the crew practised berthing in restricted areas, boat handling, and increasing their local knowledge at night. Despite rain showers the successful exercise lasted two hours and added to the members’ boat handling skills.
