RYA: First Aid

RYA First Aid

Three members of MVS Northumbria achieved their RYA First Aid qualification in February thanks to expert instruction and assessment at Kielder Water Sailing Club.

The RYA First Aid qualification is a one-day, classroom-based course specifically designed for water users, covering essential life-saving skills for boating emergencies. It comprises cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), with drowning protocol, for adults and children, automated external defibrillator (AED) use, cold water shock, hypothermia, seasickness, bleeding control, and contacting emergency services via radio. It also covers Category C First Aid kits, that are carried on commercial vessels, and as such is an Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA)-approved course, meeting the requirements for professional skipper qualifications and commercial endorsement.
