Severn Unit Called out for Gloucestershire Flooding
11 January 2023
With rising river levels on both the Severn and Avon, the Tewkesbury based Severn Unit has been on full alert.
They had their first call out for 2023 when they were tasked by Avon Navigation Trust to secure a large Widebeam steel boat which appeared to be in difficulty at Avon Lock.
Head of Unit Nic Price said, “Three of us took our Rigiflex workboat and just squeezed under King John’s Bridge to reach the lock.
The boat could have easily floated free as one rope was near the top of a small mooring pole and the water levels were rising fast so we climbed aboard and securely tied three further ropes around some trees so the boat could rise safely.
The team are continuing to monitor the situation.
