A 19-year-old soldier who died in October 1918, has been given a Commonwealth War Graves Commission headstone to commemorate his life.

MVS Gravesend had the honour of being part of the ceremony, with MVS member the Reverend Jacqueline Littlewood officiating and HOU Michael Hegarty as Standard Bearer.

Gunner George Edward Valentine Field was laid to rest at Northfleet Cemetery, but was never properly commemorated as war dead until Andrew Marshall of the Gravesham War Memorials Trust discovered his story.

Now, 99 years on, George was remembered for his bravery during the special service with some of his family members present.
