East Sussex extends Youth Training Programme
East Sussex Sovereign Harbour Unit has expanded the Unit’s youth training programme to a local sailing club.
This week the Unit took out the first of two groups of youngsters from Bexhill Sailing Club Cadets.
While slightly choppy conditions meant it wasn’t possible to carry out the popular man overboard exercises with a dan-buoy that are often the highlight of the Unit’s evening youth sea experience trips, all of the cadets were able to steer the MVS’s national training vessel East Sussex 1.
Malcom Brookes of the Bexhill Sailing Club said “A great evening last night, the cadets loved it!”
The Unit will be taking out more groups of youngsters on East Sussex 1 during the Summer Term and during the Autumn school half term.
The 17 metre long former Royal Navy harbour launch is funded, maintained and operated by the Eastbourne-based Unit.
