MVS City of Portsmouth Supports the Round Island Race

MVS City of Portsmouth were again approached by the Island Sailing Club to provide support for this years Round the Island Race.

It meant a 07:00 start at Whale Island, then passage out to Bembridge Ledge for rendezvous with another support vessel to receive trackers and paperwork.

This year’s race proved to have its own challenges for the vessels taking part.
The general lack of wind left hundreds of competitors struggling to reach the needles before the tidal gate slammed shut.

The wind picked up in the middle of the afternoon, which allowed the yachts to use their spinnakers which made the horizon very colourful.
