Following a successful late May Bank Holiday opening the Eastbourne-based MVS national training vessel East Sussex 1 was open to the public again on the Saturday and Monday of the August Bank Holiday.

Members of the East Sussex Sovereign Harbour Unit welcomed a steady stream of visitors on board the ex-Navy launch which has had a busy and varied summer season.
As well as taking out youth groups and those with special needs, East Sussex 1 was deployed to Dover to work with the Thanet Unit and local Sea Cadets, crossed the Channel to Boulogne and took part in two exercises with the local RNLI.

Head of Unit David Hughes commented: “This has been a most successful season due to the commitment and excellent teamwork of our Unit members.

The main purpose of the open days was to raise our profile and I’m sure we’ve achieved that.

We were very pleased to welcome our local MP, Stephen Lloyd, on board and to explain to him the role of the MVS and how we can support the local community.”
