Tewkesbury based Severn Unit members have just returned from their annual offshore training trip down the Severn Estuary and Bristol Channel visiting Portishead, Watchet and Cardiff, where the changeable weather and high spring tides made for some challenging passages.

Regional Head of Seamanship, Tim Huckvale said, “Eleven members in five boats including our own training vessel Minerva took part and it was a very successful training cruise.
Timings were imperative especially when we were in the top part of the Severn Estuary and everyone learned a lot.
We had to alter our original plans due to adverse weather and sea conditions and the approach of Storm Miguel meant returning to Sharpness before it struck.”
