Severn Unit Keeps Navigation Clear
After all the rain that fell since September the River Avon has been almost continuously in flood for many weeks.
A great deal of debris has been washed down the river including logs and whole trees which have piled up around King John’s Bridge at Tewkesbury and created large rafts of wood and vegetation.
Head of Severn Unit Nic Price said “The Unit has been out in our boats on a number of occasions to try and keep the main navigation arch free of debris to ensure safe navigation.
So far the Winter has been very busy for the Unit as we have been on full flood alert with Avon Navigation Trust for months and we have also had several incidents involving loose boats which needed rescuing”.
