River Festival Duties for Severn Unit

Minerva Parade 2

The Tewkesbury based Severn Unit have had another busy summer.

They were asked to take their boats to Pershore for the town’s River Festival where in addition to providing safety cover for the Wychavon Games Bell Boat regatta they also played a ceremonial role.
The training boat Minerva did several fly pasts with the Pershore Town Crier and Jack Hegarty the Chairman of Avon Navigation Trust who was taking the salute at the opening of the event.

The Unit also made a seven hour journey up the Avon through six locks to Evesham where they provided safety cover at the Battle of Evesham 1265 re-enactment.
The event was attended by over 30,000 people and held alongside the riverbank.
