Rushden Unit Opens
Our newest MVS Unit has started regular meetings, with HoU Maurice Weight, a local college lecture, with service in the Royal Navy in charge. Their first formal meet brought together the eight members of the new MVS Rushden Unit and they had the “treat” of listening to the AVO (North) as he went through the organisation and aspirations of the MVS. Meeting in the function room at Rushden’s Conservative Club, the group are now a regular part of the MVS, with a delegation attending the AGM in Poole.
Maurice, who knows the MVS from his days at HMS President, had held three informal sessions at the club to introduce the MVS to potential members. “On the first night I stood looking out from the first floor windows and thought what have I done” said Maurice “However people started to arrive and listen to my talk” Maurice has already laid some strong ground work for the new Unit. Visits to local organisations involved with civil contingency work have been met with support and interest.
“We were very pleased that Chris could attend our first meeting” continued Maurice, “It was very nice for the new members to see the links with the rest of service and we are looking forward to meeting other Units”. Chris commented “It is always a great feeling to attend a new Unit; it was also so good to see so many experienced people joining an embryonic unit. To see two already in uniform promises so much and with the links already being made I can see a busy time ahead for the Rushden Team.”
Rushden is one of our inland waters Units, but Maurice is very keen to work with other Units and looks to develop some sea time in the near future.
The Unit meets at the Conservative Club High Street Rushden, prospective members should drop Maurice an email to mvsrushden@hotmail.com
