Flood Relief Recognition for Lower Thames
In 2014 the Lower Thames Unit were successful in receiving over four thousand pounds after applying for funding from Gravesham Council in order to establish a Flood Response Team after recent local emergencies.
Following months of work and preparation the Gravesend-based unit have received delivery of a new small inflatable boat (called a SIB) which has been appropriately called Storm.
Storm will be used by members during times of local flooding, working in close liaison with fire, police and other rescue services in delivering aid to households that are flooded and to ferry stranded members of the public to safety.
The MVS Lower Thames Unit is part of the Kent Voluntary Sector Emergency Group and can be called on in times of local and national emergencies.
