MVS Blue Light plays role in River Thames Pageants
MVS Kingston has played a key role in supporting the Great River Race on the Thames.
The race covers 21.6 miles from Millwall in the East to Richmond in the West.
With over 2,500 competitors competing for 36 trophies, the race has become the biggest and most prestigious event of its kind in Europe.
MVS Blue Light’s role was to be a guard boat to direct the boats at Canary Wharf pier so as not to cut off the corner.
Following that Blue Light followed the race back upstream to ensure a safe area to operate.
The previous week, the Kingston Unit, was asked to provide transport for the Master, Wardens and Clerk from the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers to ceremonially inspect and then escort a unique optical atomic clock along the river.
The unique object has been given to Royal Museums, Greenwich by the National Physical Laboratory to mark the relationship between the institutions.
A flotilla of 15 boats, led by royal barge Jubilant proceeded down the Thames from Isleworth to Greenwich.
