MVS Celebrates 30 Years with Royal Attendance
To mark 30 years of service the MVS gathered at All Hallows by the Tower in the City of London for a service of thanksgiving.
The church service, which brought together over 100 distinguished guests from Industry, Government, Parliament, Local Government, Port and Harbour Authorities, Maritime Organisations and MVS Volunteers from across the United Kingdom, was attended by MVS Royal Patron, HRH Prince Michael of Kent GCVO and MVS President, Admiral, The Rt Hon. The Lord West of Spithead GCB, DSC, PC.
Also in attendance was the Rt Hon. The Lord Mayor of London, Alderman Professor Michael Mainelli, who during the service, was installed by Admiral Lord West, as the MVS’ Honorary Regional Commodore for the City of London and wider River Thames area.
Since the founding of the Maritime Volunteer Service in 1994, after the disbandment of the Royal Naval Auxiliary Service the volunteers of the MVS have worked tirelessly to uphold maritime tradition and heritage, whilst supporting local communities across the UK with training and the practical deployment of maritime skills.
The service offered a fitting tribute to the MVS volunteers and the work that the charity has undertaken in safeguarding our coastal and inland waterways over the past 30 years.
